The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election and has reaffirmed its commitment to support Zambia.
In a congratulatory letter issued in Washington D.C. by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, she pledged to continue rendering assistance for the development agenda of Zambia over the next five years of his tenure.
Ms. Georgieva extended best wishes to the President for a successful second term in office and welcomed what she described as the “very close engagement” between Zambia and the IMF.
She further commended the Zambian authorities for their steadfast efforts in implementing sound economic policies and ambitious reforms under President Hichilema’s leadership, noting the progress made in stabilising the economy and restoring confidence.
“Let me assure you, Mr President, of the International Monetary Fund’s unequivocal commitment to supporting Zambia’s ambitious developmental agenda,” she said.
She added that the global lender looked forward to working closely with the administration to strengthen the partnership and advance the shared objective of building a prosperous Zambia.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi also congratulated President Hichilema, expressing keenness to further strengthen cooperation between Zambia and Egypt. He pledged to build on the solid foundation of bilateral relations and enhance coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie, joined in congratulating President Hichilema, expressing confidence that his tenure would continue to steer Zambia towards progress and prosperity.
The African Union Development Agency–NEPAD Chief Executive Officer, Nardos Thomas, conveyed congratulations, noting that AUDA-NEPAD highly valued its partnership with Zambia and remained committed to supporting the country’s development priorities and its contribution to Africa’s Agenda 2063.
