PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to vote peacefully and in large numbers after casting his ballot at Kabulonga Boys Secondary School in Lusaka.
Mr Hichilema voted alongside First Lady Mutinta Hichilema and members of his family.
In a message to voters, the President said the decision on who would lead the country for the next five years rested with the people of Zambia.
“We have cast our ballot, one vote among millions,” Mr Hichilema said.
He encouraged every registered voter to turn out and exercise their right to vote, urging citizens to go with their families, friends and neighbours.
“Vote in peace, and let others do the same,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said democracy was strengthened every time citizens voted and urged Zambians to “vote in huge numbers”.
He also called on voters to respect one another during the electoral process and wished the country well.
