GOVERNMENT has commenced the disbursement of more than K1.4 billion in Social Cash Transfer (SCT) payments to over 1.5 million vulnerable households across the country for the July-August 2026 payment cycle.
The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services said beneficiaries would access the funds through their respective payment service providers over the next four weeks, with payments scheduled at different times.
Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer Glenda Nachinga urged beneficiaries to remain vigilant and safeguard their mobile phones and SIM cards, while keeping their personal identification numbers (PINs) confidential to prevent fraud and loss of funds.
Ms Nachinga said beneficiaries experiencing challenges, including failure to receive payments, should report their concerns through the ministry’s official grievance-redress mechanisms.
She said the SCT programme remained Government’s flagship social protection initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable households, reducing poverty and inequality, and helping families build resilience against economic shocks.
MsNachinga also said the programme contributed to stimulating economic activity within local communities by putting money directly into the hands of vulnerable households.
She said the latest disbursement demonstrated Government’s continued commitment to strengthening social protection and ensuring vulnerable citizens received timely financial assistance.
Ms Nachinga urged beneficiaries to redeem their funds within the designated payment period and report any challenges encountered during the process.
