President Hakainde Hichilema says Zambians should expect more investment transactions beyond the US$2.14 billion following his two-day working visit to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Speaking to journalists shortly after arrival at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka yesterday, President Hichilema said he had left a Zambian delegation in Abu Dhabi to push for more investment deals that could even exceed US$3 billion.
The US$2.14 billion investment agreements covered healthcare, renewable energy, logistics, technology and biotechnology.
“This whole trip was orchestrated to support the Grow Zambia Agenda. I am sure you have read the news, you are journalists. We have been able, as at yesterday (Wednesday), to reach agreements to the investment level of US$2.14 billion.
“I have left a small team working. We believe we will conclude more transactions, which probably will take up the ticket, maybe close to US$3 billion or more,” President Hichilema said.
Mr Hichilema said those transactions were around health, and disclosed that about 100 hectares of land had been allocated near the KKIA to build a Health City, consisting of health, hotels and other tourism-related facilities.
President Hichilema said there were also investments in agriculture, tourism and energy away from the KKIA area, which aggregated to US$2.14 billion.
