President Hakainde Hichilema has said that each and everyone of the 21 million citizens he serves, has something important to contribute to the country.

President Hichilema said this at Community House in Lusaka yesterday when he met Maggie Sapatu, a 52-year-old woman from Mwinilunga who walked for 18 days to Lusaka to appreciate him for his dedication to delivering development to citizens and Jeremiah Tembo, who cycled from Lusangazi to the inauguration ceremony.

“We serve 21 million Zambians and every citizen brings something important to the table.

“Maggie Sapatu walked for 18 days from Mwinilunga to bring us village chicken and Jeremiah Tembo cycled from Lusangazi to attend our inauguration. Today we sat and ate together, as fellow citizens,” President Hichilema said in a posting on his Facebook page.

According to ZNBC News monitored in Lusaka yesterday, President Hichilema said that the Government would continue to work to ensure that Free Education benefited the most vulnerable people in society.

He said that the policy did not only cushion families from the cost of education, but also ensured that citizens had access to education, which he described as an equaliser.

President Hichilema said that he was motivated to work even harder after learning that ordinary citizens such as Ms Sapatu appreciated his policies.

He commended Ms Sapatu for spreading positivity following the election period, which was characterised by hate speech.

President Hichilema said that he was humbled by the love and admiration shown by ordinary citizens and assured them that Government would continue working to deliver development and improve their lives.

He said he and the First Family would support Ms Sapatu to undertake a project, which would be determined after consultations with her.

President Hichilema also thanked other well-wishers who had come forward to assist Ms Sapatu.

The President also thanked Mr Tembo for his unwavering dedication and love for Zambia.

Ms Sapatu said she left Mwinilunga on August 13, 2026, around 08:00 hours, immediately after voting.

She said that she embarked on the journey even before the election results were announced because she was confident that President Hichilema would emerge victorious owing to his good leadership.
