All the 224 new Members of Parliament (MPs) have been sworn in ahead of the commencement of the first session of the 14th National Assembly.
The second batch of the remaining MPs from Monday’s first swearing-in session was swom-in by Speaker of the
National Assembly Nelly Mutti at the National Assembly Buildings in Lusaka yesterday.
And former Government Chief Whip in the 13th National Assembly Stafford Mulusa called for unity of purpose among all members in fostering the country’s development as President Hakainde Hichilema commenced his new term of office.
Mr Mulusa, who is also Solwezi North MP, said each member had been elected to serve the electorate and should execute their mandate by putting the country’s interest ahead of personal gain.
“We are all coming in at different intervals, some of us are returning, while some of us are coming into the House for the first time. The elections are now behind us, let us all focus on development, national unity and improving the lives of our people,” Mr Mulusa said.
In a separate interview, former Government Deputy Chief Whip in the 13th National Assembly Likando Mufalali, urged all members of the House to observe its dignity and decorum during debates.
“The House has rules. I have been on both sides before; the opposition and now in Government, one does not need to be aggressive in making their point known, you can still debate in a sober manner and render your contribution on any issue,” he said.
Mr Mufalali, who is also Senanga South MP, hailed President Hichilema for the legal reforms undertaken by the Government which increased the participation of women, the youth and people living with disability in the National Assembly.
