THE Zambia Forest and Forestry Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) have become the headline sponsors of the first-ever Copperbelt Inter-Company Relay (ICR) after pumping K120, 000 into the event.
The Copperbelt Inter-Company Relay will be held next week Saturday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) president Elias Mpondela said the association was excited to have ZAFFICO on board and as a headline sponsor saying their chipping in came at the right time.
He said ZAFFICO’s move will act as a motivation to other companies to come on board and be part of the relay.
He said it was good for a Copperbelt based company to take up the roleof being a headline sponsor since the event was to make sure themembers of the community see their favourite athletescompete.
“We as an association are happy with the coming on board of ZAFICO, it is goodthat a company from the Copperbelt has taken the headline sponsorship.
They will sponsor teams and management at ZAFFICO will also be part of the competition,” Mpondela said.
“We have also received K15, 000 from Bata Shoe Company who are thesponsors of the power race and we hope they will sponsor the race eventhis time, we want Sydney Siame and Kabange Mupopo and many more to be at theevent,” Mpondela said.
Mpondela has since appealed to other corporate companies not only those on the Copperbelt to come on board be part of the event.
The association has budgeted K500,000 to be able to stage the first ever Copperbelt ICR in Ndola.
