NKANA Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament (MP) Alexander Chiteme has described President Edgar Lungu’s speech to the National Assembly as inspiring and a mark of true leadership focusing on uplifting the welfare of citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
Mr Chiteme said President Lungu’s address to the House on Friday last week provided a more assurance to citizens that challenges facing Zambia’s economy were being addressed.
Moving a motion of thanks in the House to the President’s address, Mr Chiteme said the President provided hope, citing Government’s dedication to attain a resilient and diversified economy to benefit all citizens.
The MP said many successes had been recorded under Mr Lungu’s administration in all economic sectors and expressed confidence the country would achieve more positive results in an integrated approach.
“I call upon my fellow parliamentarians to work together in unity so that we can deliver to the expectations of the Zambian people who entrusted us with the responsibility of representing them and overseeing the activities of the Government,” he said.
Mr Chiteme hailed the Government’s continued support to education as an equaliser, citing a running bursary scheme under the title ‘Keeping Girls in School Project’ which was providing over 14,000 girls from vulnerable households with secondary school education.
He said he was happy with Mr Lungu’s commitment to ensuring good governance, a pre-requisite to political stability, human security, economic growth and sustainable development, were upheld.
Mr Chiteme said the President’s commitment to the consultative process in national governance through creation of a smart-platform for consultation called Cluster Advisory Groups at national and sub-national levels was critical in fostering sustainable development.
