RUGBY Seven’s National team coach Andrew Kamiso has urged his players to use the Zambia International 7’s tournament as a stepping stone to more international tournaments.
Kamiso said the team was in good shape and ready for the tournament which is slated for September 2-3 at the Lusaka Polo grounds off Leopard’s Hill Road.
“The team is responding well to training and all the players are in good shape. Us being the host nation, we must make sure we do our best to win the competition,” he said.
He said the technical bench was working on the tactical and physical aspect of the players towards the game and how they should approach the tournament.
Kamiso said it was important for the team to win the tournament and restore the pride of the tournament to the country.
“It’s a stepping stone for these players. It will help us expose our players and prepare them for future international tournaments. We have won a lot of silverware at such tournaments but its time to go a step further now,” Kamiso said.
Kamiso said the tournament will see the country play good teams like Zimbabwe and South Africa that would help improve the sport in the country.
He said morale in camp was high and expected the players to regroup on Monday as they have been released to feature for their clubs over this weekend.
Five countries confirmed participation in the tournament which includes South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe and DRC Congo.
