KITWE Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe has called on residents to take part in council activities in their localities for the development of the city.
Mr Kang’ombe said citizens must reflect on transforming the country but that cannot be done if they are failing to transform the communities they are living in.
Speaking during a community meeting, Mr Kamg’ombe said the local authority wants to change how residents manage their garbage and is hoping that within one year, the transformation can commence.
“We are basically asking you to get fully engaged in council activities. Every Saturday my colleagues from the local authority and I pick on an area and clean and am sure when you go around you will see the difference,” Mr Kang’ombe said.
He appealed to residents in the district to pick on a common waste management company that will be getting rid of their waste so that there is no waste going into the streets from their households.
He added that the council rather focuses on the market and public places where the council has a responsibility.
Mr Kang’ombe said he made the important appeal because this is an agenda that will run until the current civil leaders in power are available to serve.
He added that he hoped the next civil leaders that will take over the current ones will also have the same passion towards cleanliness.
