A COMBINED team of State and Lusaka City Council  police in the early hours of Saturday fought running battles with patrons found at non compliant bars operating beyond stipulated time in Lusaka.
Though in full riot gear, some intoxicated patrons who managed to escape mobilised and started hitting back with stones targeted to the police.
The operation that lasted for more than four hours saw 69 male and female patrons spend a night at Matero police station with more than five bar licenses seized.
LCC assistant public relations manager Brenda Katongola who was part of the operation said the council was about bringing order and sanity in the city.
“We want to see compliance by night club and bar owners and prevent illicit activities such as underage and public sexual activities,” she said.
Ms Katongola said the council would not rest until their aim was achieved which was total compliance in the capital city.
She appealed to members of the general public and non compliant bar owners to desist from finding themselves in such awkward moments as the law would not spare anyone.
