KITWE Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe has said the appointment of a commission of inquiry on voting patterns and electoral violence by President Edgar Lungu has given Zambia an assurance of solutions in the future.
Mr Kang’ombe said the appointment of the Commission would not only deal with the 2016 general elections tension but also future problems.
Speaking yesterday after commission chairperson Munalula Lisimba paid a courtesy call on him, Mr Kang’ombe said the PF was committed to ensuring that the voting patterns and electoral violence was addressed to bring unity amongst political parties and the nation at large.
“We saw how the country was divided through the voting patterns and violence exhibited during the 2016 general elections and as a party we have really been concerned and President Lungu appointed the commission to probe this problem,” he said.
Mr Kang’ombe said there was need for political parties to promote justice and avoid any conflicts that might bring the country’s peace at stake.
He said he was confident that the 2021 elections would be successful especially that solutions would be found by the commission.
“I am confident that as we draw closer to 2021 general elections, we will go in the election with solutions and know how to conduct ourselves as political leaders and cadres because solutions will be found after the sittings,” he said.
Mr Kang’ombe said the voting pattern was extremely worrying and endangered the country’s peace.
As a party we have welcomed this commission because we want to see peace and unity prevailing in the country and we can’t continue to live in hate and violence towards one another.
He urged the Commission to ensure that the report to the Head of State should reflect the views of the people.
District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said President Lungu was committed to governing the country in the umbrella of peace and unity.
Mr Mpundu said peace was cardinal to governance of any nation hence the President’s move to constitute such an inquiry for Zambians to live in peace.
