PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called for immediate and concerted universal measures to combat terrorism and extremism.
Mr Lungu said Zambia would promote efforts to fight terrorism globally to make the world a safer place for humanity to live in.
The President said this in a letter to United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister, Theresa May, in mourning the death of more than 20 people killed in a terror attack on Manchester, Britain on Monday night.
The incident, a suicide bombing, which occurred at the end of a concert by the American singer Ariana Grande, also left more than 50 people injured.
“On behalf of my Government, the people of Zambia and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to convey to your Excellency, Mrs Theresa May, MP, the bereaved families and the people of Britain, our heartfelt sympathies
and condolences on this tragic loss,” the Head of State said. “Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem.
This is according to a statement released in Lusaka yesterday bySpecial Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.
President Lungu said Zambia unequivocally condemned all forms terrorism and incidences such as the one on Manchester, stressed an urgent need for concerted measures worldwide to combat terrorism.
He said Zambians would stand with the British in mourning the deceased and wishing the injured quick recovery.
