KABWE Central Member of Parliament Tutwa Ngulube has called for increased community participation for the country to develop.
Speaking at David Lamushi Combined School in Kabwe during Constituency visit recently Mr Ngulube said the many challenges at the institution needed team work instead of waiting for the Government to take projects to the institution.
Teachers at Kabwe’s overcrowded David Lamushi appealed to the Government through parliamentary office to build classes for grade twelve, a laboratory and help to put up more infrastructure at the institution to meet the secondary status.
Mr Ngulube said as much as the institution needed aid there was need for the community around the area to initiate developmental projects before inviting the Government.
He however, assured management of Government’s intervention through his parliamentary office.
Mr Ngulube advised the school management to apply for Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which would be released this year for the projects that needed attention at the institution.
“For now from my pocket, I will give you 100 pockets of cement and a few trucks of sand for moulding of blocks to embark on the construction project but I need the community to mould the blocks instead of buying them. So when I come back next time I need to see development,” he said.
David Lamushi deputy school manager for secondary Mostie Moonga said currently the school went up to grade 11 and did not have space to tutor the grade 12s from next year.
Mr Moonga said lack of a laboratory at the institution means pupils can’t conduct experiments.
“Honourable, this year we are only going up to grade 11 but next year we are going to have grade 12 classes but since we do not have enough classrooms we do not know where to take them.’’
“Also lack of a laboratory has made us not to be having experiments on the part of sciences,” he said.
David Lamushi deputy school manager for primary Bulaya Bwalya said the school was overcrowded as a result of upgrading it from primary to secondary without building new infrastructures.
“You can imagine at primary the least class has 82 pupils, and we only hope your coming Honourable MP, will make a difference. At least for a start if you can help us a 1X5 classroom block where we will take the grade 12 classes,” she said.
Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairperson Happy Chama expressed happiness at the visit of the area Member of Parliament and pleaded with him to use his influence to develop the school.
“For over 30 years I have come to this community, Honourable MP, you are the second MP to come to this school since the last visit by the late MP,” he said.
