POLICE in Lusaka are still investigating a case in which the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) nullified its December examinations after students wrote the same paper set for the mock examinations at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS).
Police public relations officer Charity Munganga-Chanda confirmed in an interview yesterday that police had established a case and were seeking a charge for the offenders.
She said this was because the ZICA Act did not specify what kind of punishment to give to someone found with such an offence as did the Examination Council of Zambia.
She said some ZCAS accounting students who noticed the anomaly reported the issue to the police.
“When we looked at the ZICA Act there is no criminal element but only administrative punishment. The Act has no punitive measures for such an offence.
“As a result, we have continued to study the Act to establish what punishment to give the offenders,” Ms Chanda said.
Early this month, the ZICA council nullified the December examination papers following reports of “leakage”.
ZICA said it had referred the matter to the law enforcement agencies for investigations.
The institution nullified the professional level paper two advanced management accounting examination after it emerged that the same was administered to ZCAS students as a mock examination on November 20.
