THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Lusaka has called on Zambians and the international community to dispel claims by opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) that its leader Hakainde Hichilema was wrongly charged and detained.
PF director for media Sunday Chanda said recent claims by UPND parliamentarians that their leader was held on trumped up charges, was nothing but self-indulgent propaganda that lacked merit.
Mr Chanda said there was a prima facie evidence in the public domain to counter the UPND’s justifications which he described as misplaced.
“We call on these UPND MPs to act honourably and not stoop to levels where they lose all objectivity,” Mr Chanda said.
He said the video clip from Prime TV that went viral on social media and the interview of Mr Hichilema on the same station was evidently revealing on how deliberate Mr Hichilema’s convoy was in daring and disrespecting the Presidential Motorcade.
Mr Chanda also referred to the named tabloid that reported that Mr Hichilema and his deputy sneaked into the main arena and walked out on President Edgar Lungu was evident enough of his ill motive and disrespect for the Litunga as well.
“It is with much shock that we see them talking about the arrest of HH heightening tension and mistrust and deepening the regional division in the nation. Who can promote tribal politics and regionalism better than Mr Hichilema’s political leadership,” he said.
Mr Chanda said the arrest and charges slapped on Mr Hichilema were as a result of nothing but pure gross criminal misconduct endangering the life of the President and that of ordinary Zambians.
