THE Anglo American and Brenthurst Foundation founder, Greg Mills have been linked to supporting opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema with the intention of positioning and later imposing him as president of Zambia.
Patriotic Front (PF) media director Sunday Chanda said it was clear the foundation’s motive in Africa in general was to fund and support selected opposition leaders, puppets, to oust legitimate political leaders in order to advance their capitalist Anglo American’s interests before those of the nation.
Mr Chanda said Mr Hichilema was once on record threatening the local, regional and international community with ‘amargeddon violence’ after losing Zambia’s presidential elections.
He said it was clear that the ill-motive of the Brenthurst foundation was to make sure Zambia’s opposition abandon democracy and embrace violence as their avenue to protest an imaginary ‘stolen’ election.
“You can imagine that the one who encourages Zambian opposition to abandon democracy, resort to violence and trigger a civil war is neither Hichilema, nor a UPND cadre. It is an imperialist who is not even a Zambian,” Mr Chanda said.
He further stated that the director of Brenthurst Foundation coincidentally echoed Mr Hichilema’s obsession that the entire international community conspired to inhibit the UPND leader from being president
Mr Chanda explained that on September 5, 2016, a post was published on Brenthurst Foundation’s official Facebook page promoting an article on Zambia’s election which was more of a reiteration of all Hichilema’s false allegations.
“Written by the foundation’s director Greg Mills and issued in an Australian magazine, the allegations included: flawed election”, “binned ballots”, “widespread intimidation”, “tampered results”, and so forth,” he said.
Mr Chanda said it was clear that Anglo American did not like President Edgar Lungu because of his firm stance that they dumped Zambians at a time they were needed the most.
“We know that Anglo American loves Hakainde Hichilema. Despite the tragedies caused by the mining giant after Levy Mwanawasa won against the late UPND president and founder Anderson Mazoka, his successor Hichilema promised that he will bring back Anglo American if voted into power,” he said.
He said with all the evidence, it was clear and a known fact that Anglo American was behind Mr Hichilema’s 2016 presidential campaign for its own interests and not that of the country.
Mr Chanda also revealed that in 2014, Mr Hichilema attended a series of secret meetings in South Africa with a number of foreign mining businessmen and arms dealers believed to hold similar grievances against President Lungu and the PF.
