COACH Beston Chambeshi dedicated Zambia’s historic Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph to the supportive Zambians.
Chambeshi said he was happy with the support fans showed the team and that the win was for the country especially that fans supported the team from the first game to the last.
“This is a great win, a really memorable one and it comes out of hard work and determination. The players really fought well and showed character and I am happy they stayed focused until the end of this tournament,” he said.
His opposite number Joseph Koto congratulated Zambia for the win saying his side tried its best in the game but failed to break down the Zambian team.
“We played well and tried our best. But that’s football, one day it’s your day and the other it is not. Zambia failed at group stage in 2015, we went to final but today Zambia has been good and they played well and they are deserving champions,” he said.
Meanwhile, dance, speedy vehicles characterised celebrations yesterday as fans partied Zambia’s victory.
From Kitwe, SYLVIA MWEETWA reports that scores of fans last night besieged the ZNBC studio in celebration.
The jubilant fans sang the Chipolopolo anthem while others praised God for the victory.
Police deployed in various points had a tough time controlling the fans who, at some point, become unruly.
A check in various points found that some fans had lined up near Riverside Police, City Centre and Chamboli mostly along the roads where they made motorist to honk before allowing them to drive through.
By 21:00 hours fans were still gathering at ZNBC with most youths talked to stating that the win was the best youth day commemoration as honking and vuvuzela blowing continued.
