COPPERBELT Minister Bowman Lusambo has warned police officers against being involved in corrupt activities such as the smuggling of mealie meal.
Speaking yesterday during the Zambia Police Open Day held in Kamfinsa, Mr Lusambo said police officers should concentrate on controlling the smuggling of mealie meal which were being taken to neighbouring countries.
He said the open day was an interface between the police and general public and the police officers were accountable to the public on issues of smuggling.
“Politics are now over and we are in an application phase I therefore urge you to maintain professionalism in your conduct and in issues of smuggling,” he said.
And Copperbelt Police chief Charity Katanga said police officers should perform duties according to their professional standard and ethics to respond to the challenges and demands of the country.
“Officers on the Copperbelt should thrive for excellence in the duties however, this would not be archived without the involvement of the community,” she said.
