THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two people for duping a printing company out of K200,000 which was intended for printing and supplying campaign material for a political party in the 2016 general elections.
The two suspects Webster Shamyombye, 46, a business executive of 961 Kamwala South in Lusaka and Besnati Tembo, 37, a business executive of the same address are alleged to have falsely obtained the money from a director of Sanani Trading under the pretext that it was one per cent of the performance security guarantee for the campaign materials.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said that a Toyota Land Cruiser had been seized as part of proceeds of crime.
Ms Katongo said in a statement that the suspects were released on bond and would appear in court soon.
Meanhwile, DEC has arrested a 46-year-old man in Eastern Province for trafficking in 1.650 tonnes of loose cannabis.
Ms Katongo said that the suspect appeared in court and was sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour with effect from February 22, 2017.
“The Court further ruled that the seized items in the matter which includes a Volvo FL Truck Registration No ACZ 8394, a Toyota Regius Bus Registration No ACB 673 and household goods will be forfeited to the State within 30 days if no claim to the said property is made,” she said.
