THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set April 25, 2017 as the date for District Chairperson elections for Masaiti District on the Copperbelt Province.
ECZ senior public relations officer Sylvia Bwalya said on the same date the commission would also conduct local Government by-elections in Ipongo ward of Chibombo district and Kasamba wards of Nchelenge district.
Ms Bwalya said the elections in Masaiti were necessitated following the resignation of the council chairperson while the vacancy in Ipongo and Kasamba occurred due to the death of the area councilors.
She said this in a statement yesterday.
Ms Bwalya said the polls would take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours and aspiring candidates in the by-elections should lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers
subscribed before a magistrate, Election officer or returning officer.
“Aspiring candidates for Masaiti should take along with them 15 supporters who are registered voters in the respective constituencies, the aspiring candidates will be required to pay K2000 nomination fees,” Ms Bwalya said.
She said the candidates in the local government by-elections should take along 9 supporters and aspiring candidates will be required to pay K750 and for city and Municipal councils K400 that are non-refundable.
Ms Bwalya said the campaign period for the elections commences on March 16 after 15:00 hours and would end at 18:00 hours on April 24.
