FOURTEEN year-old Luyando Munkasu, the Mazhandu bus accident survivor is slowly recuperating and has been moved from the intensive care unit (ICU) of Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in South Africa.
Press Secretary at the Zambian High Commission in South Africa Nicky Shabolyo said Luyando’s father told him that his daughter was moved from the ICU on Monday after having  undergone a medical procedure.
He said Luyando was yet to undergo a second operation after which doctors would be able to determine what would follow.
Mr Shabolyo said Luyando whose evacuation to South Africa was necessitated by Government early this month, was now talking audibly and able to eat and walk by herself.
“Mr Munkasu said doctors were happy with Luyando’s recovery and have since moved her to an ordinary ward,” he said.
Luyando, who lost her mother and sister in the accident, sustained a deep cut on the front body and injuries to the left side of her heard.
Ten people died in the early hours of January, 31, when a Mazhandu Family Bus collided with a truck on the Great North Road.
The accident happened at Luanshiba area between Kabwe and Kapiri-Mposhi districts.
