FAZ Division-One Zone Two promotion hopefuls Gomes believes they are well-placed to get a lift into next year’s MTN-FAZ super division.
In an interview, Gomes chairman Vernon Musonda regretted the missed promotion chance which was caused by a run of seven straight draws in the second half of the season after a good start to the year.
Musonda believes the team has moved on from last season’s disappointments and are ready to mount a serious league challenge this year.
The Ndola-based team finished in fourth place with the only promotion place going to Chililabombwe side Konkola Blades.
They finished below Kitwe United in third and Roan United in second.
“We finished the 2016 league season on a low after going through changes in key areas of the team, we have moved on though and looking forward to this year’s season.
“I think, now, we are in a good position because we are not allowing any of the first team players to leave the club,” he said.
He said the club will hold trials next week.
He said the club management is scheduled to hold an officials meeting where major decisions will be made.
Musonda said the team stands a chance of winning promotion to the top flight league given the experience gained from last year.
The ‘Acid Boys’ chairman said the side was looking forward to the start of the season and thanked Gomes Haulage Company and the fans for their continued support to the team.
He, however, acknowledged the challenge other teams like Kitwe United, Roan United and Indeni will pose to his side’s chances of winning promotion.
The Ndola club’s technical director Albert Kachinga and club head George Phiri have called a five-day trial to beef up the team.
