THE State has asked the court to grant it a last adjournment in a matter, where United Party for National Development (UPND) member Innocent Kalimanshi is charged with assaulting a police officer on duty.
This was after Kalimanshi’s defence lawyer, Keith Mweemba complained to the court that the State has taken too long to prosecute the matter, as such his client should be discharged.
Kalimanshi is charged with assaulting a police officer, Arnold Kapanga, while on duty on May 8, last year.
Kalimanshi is in count two and three alleged to have in the same period occasioned actual bodily harm to Darson Chilembo and Brian Chimfwembe.
When the matter came up before Lusaka Resident Magistrate Austin Mubita, the State indicated that it was unable to proceed with the commencement of trial, because the prosecutor who was dealing with the case had been transferred.
Meanwhile, a case where former Chongwe Parliamentarian Sylvia Masebo is charged with abuse of authority of office when she allegedly canceled the Zambia Wild Life Authority (ZAWA) hunting Concession, has been adjourned to January 31, this year.
