THE Latin University of Theology and the IChange Nations of the United States of America (USA) have awarded first Republican president Kenneth Kaunda with an honorary Doctorate in Humanities and Civil Society.
IChange Nation founder Clyde Rivers who presented the honours to Dr Kaunda at his residence in Lusaka yesterday described the former Head of State as one of the world’s iconic leaders whose personality had positively touched many lives.
Dr Rivers described Dr Kaunda’s 27-year reign as a great foundation for peace and harmony not only for Zambia but the rest of the continent.
He said the entire world and not only Africa and Zambia needed to know about Zambia’s founding father and how he played a golden role in liberating many African nations and keeping the African dream alive.
“Your story (Dr Kaunda) is amazing, so I as the founder of IChange Nations would like to establish a Dr Kenneth Kaunda Award in your name to be presented to people who have done great things around the world,” Dr Rivers said.
In receiving the award, Dr Kaunda said he was humbled to be remembered in such a manner whilst he was still alive.
He thanked the Latin University of theology and IChange Nations for travelling to Africa particularly Zambia to bestow the honour on him.
Dr Kaunda said he did not expect such a big honour to be bestowed on him and to be recognised as one of the living world heroes.
“As God all mighty commands us that we should love our neighbour as ourselves, it is clear to me that you have travelled with true love all the way from USA to come to my humble self, I am very grateful and may god Bless you” Dr Kaunda said.
Former first lady Vera Tembo who was also present at the occasion gave a moving prayer and described Dr Kaunda as the real father of the nation from whom all leaders should draw inspiration.
