By JULIUS PHIRI –
FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has said the association will this year implement the decentralization programme.
Kamanga said FAZ plans to grow the game by establishing offices in all provinces to get the grassroots more involved and empower them in running the sport.
The FAZ boss said during Kavulamungu soccer tournament finals held at David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata on Sunday that his executive was committed to ensure that plans of establishing the FAZ offices in all the provinces were implemented more especially this year.
He said the focus of establishing FAZ offices was aimed at decentralising its operation as it was reaching out to the rural community.
“We want to enhance soccer and because of that, we shall establish offices across all the provinces in the country more especially this year. This is part of appreciating rural sport,” he said.
Kamanga assured that FAZ would spread its wings to rural areas in the selection of the best players who could in future be in the national teams.
He said he would run FAZ in a transparent and accountabile manner in order to instill discipline in the soccer body.
The FAZ boss said most of the programmes which the association failed to do last year would be done this year.
And Sports Minister Moses Mawere said Government welcomes the idea of taking sports to rural Zambia.
