MIDLANDS Boxing Association (MABA) says the Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) has no mandate to impose or appoint an interim executive of the association because it as an elective body.
MABA general secretary Christian Kalima said the association wondered why ZBF would impose an interim executive on the association when it has no authority to do so.
Kalima said ZBF has now overstepped its powers by selecting an interim for MABA when the association had an interim executive in place.
He said the association was only interested in having peace in the art of boxing and not the confusion that has continued in the sport.
“ZBF has no power and authority to appoint or impose an interim executive on the association, where are they getting the powers from, we are not aware of such policies, we need peace and harmony in the art of boxing, let ZBF announce the date for elections as directed by the ministry,” he said.
ZBF vice president Kennedy Mubita said ZFB had no power and authority to impose or appoint an interim executive adding they had no mandate to appoint officials for associations.
Mubita said he learnt with shock that ZBF had over-stepped the authority of the constitution and wondered why it would appoint an interim without consulting the association.
He said their term of office had expired and were only serving as interim executive and would be good to leave the office in a good state than destroying the sport in the country.
“ZBF has no mandate that gives it authority to appoint an interim for associations, it is wrong for them to do this, it is new to me and am shocked by the development, in what capacity is ZBF making this
appointments, lets follow the constitution,” he said.
Copperbelt Boxing Association (CABA) secretary general Bright Chomba said things were getting out of hand as shown by ZBF decision to impose officials in associations.
Chomba said it would have been better for ZBF to consult SCZ before arriving at some decision as this shows that they are over using their powers.
He said it was time for them to have elections and not start engaging in matters that do not build but only destroying the sport in the country.
“Things are not in order in boxing and its getting out of hand, how does ZBF appoint or impose officials on MABA when it’s an elective body, we just have to go for elections and this should be taken into serious consideration,” he said.
As at press time, ZBF secretary general Ceaser Musuku could not be reached for a statement over the matter.
