By HELLEN TEMBO –
THE Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) has condemned United Party for National Development’s (UPND) threats on police officers.
The UPND on Monday threatened to deal with police officers who fired teargas on them on Thursday last week when they clashed at the Lusaka High Court.
BIGOCA overseer Peter Ndhlovu said it was not fair for the UPND to threaten the police because they allegedly broke the law by rioting and the police were doing their job.
Bishop Ndhlovu said this in an interview yesterday.
“It’s the police’s job to protect people and property. We should respect the law because we are governed by rules and laws of the country,” he said.
Bishop Ndhlovu said the police behaved professionally and leaders should humble themselves as they aspire for leadership.
He said no one was above the law and the UPND’s behaviour showed that their leaders were not ready to be leaders of the nation.
Bishop Ndhlovu said it was time for the UPND to move on and start preparing for 2021 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) president Wright Musoma has said the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) had not come out strongly against the actions of the UPND cadres.
Mr Musoma said the LAZ president in her statement suggested that the Police allegedly provoked the UPND cadres.
He said that the nation expected LAZ to defend the Police and not side with people that attacked the court premises.
Mr Musoma said that the UPND leadership should take responsibility and not promote unruliness among their members.
