GOVERNMENT has said that it is investigating matters in which live ammunition was found in a field in Chavuma District and explosives under Zesco pylons in Kitwe.
Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Chileshe Mulenga said that Government took matters of internal security seriously and the investigative wings have taken up the two issues.
Dr Mulenga said the country’s safety was a priority and the ministry had to assure Zambians of maximum security.
He said investigative wings had since taken a step in scrutinising and investigating the 1,000 rounds of ammunition that was found in Chavuma.
Dr Mulenga said in an interview yesterday that the ministry would take steps from the recommendations that the investigative wings would make as a way of handling such matters.
“The security wings are investigating these matters and we take these matters seriously because those incidents amount to undermining our internal security,” he said.
Dr Mulenga said development of any nation depended on the security of that country as all developmental processes relied on security.
Without security, the country would not be attracting enough foreign investment as investors would be skeptical to invest in the country.
He said security was a responsibility of every citizen and not just Government and hence the need for every individual to play a role.
