Ex-miners and Allied workers Association of Zambia President Taulo Chewe said in an interview that more than 100 former miners in Solwezi District had been allocated land after the completion of the demarcation of the land in Maheba area of Kalumbila District.
He said settlers at Maheba area would not be displaced but would benefit from the exercise as they would being given title deeds as well.
“We are very grateful to the President as there’s no other empowerment you can talk about apart from land, so far over 100 ex-miners in North Western have received their pieces of land from the on going exercise of giving farm plots to ex-miners,” he said.
He said the duration of the exercise would depend in the availability of funds as the exercise was being done by Government and assured former miners that the association would continue to push for their welfare.
