ZAMBIA’S Musonda Chola has emerged winner of the Under-17 Africa Schools Chess Championships after accumulating a total of eight and half points at the tournament in Lusaka.
Chola was closely followed by Raphael Mulenga also from Zambia who managed to accumulate a total of seven and a half points.
Botswana’s Elias Thabo came third with a total of six and half points and was followed by Zambia’s Gilbert Kambeni who managed to get five and half points.
Wakunguma Nyambe completed the top five slots after managing to get five points in the tournament.
Chola completed his campaign with a win over Mapalo Nshikokola while Mulenga defeated Nyambe Wakunguma to take second position.
In the under- 17 girls category Ketty Chipoya came out third after she accumulated a total of six and a half points while Ronica Kakwezhi was fifth with five and a half points.
Botswana’s Londani Tamuta scooped first position in this category with eight points while South Africa’s Alicia Steyn was second with seven points.
Chipoya beat Londoni in round nine while Kakwezhi also passed by Tina Sibajene of Zambia to complete the top five slots.
In the under-15 boys category, Mutailoni Nshikokola scooped the category after he got seven and a half points while Botswana’s Monare Tshepo was second also with seven and a half points.
Daniel Keta from Zambia completed the top three after he accumulated a total of six points while Namibian Anthony Van der Meer was fourth with five points.
In the under-15 girls, Botswana’s Besa Masaiti scooped first position after accumulating eight and half points and was followed by Zambia’s Lubuto Bwalya who accumulated eight points while Kenya’s Varsani Reanna Paaras was third with seven and a half points.
