PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has congratulated the Zambia under-20 national team for lifting the COSAFA Cup for a historic 11th time.
The Head of State said this on his facebook page yesterday as the team returned home after defeating the host South Africa 2-1 in the finals.
“I want to congratulate the Zambia Under-20 national team for their extraordinary victory in the 2016 COSAFA championship,” he said.
The president praised the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for the meticulous manner in which they prepared the team ahead of the South African outing.
He urged them to build on the COSAFA success as Government stood ready to support the association in order to bring the desired success.
“As patron of the Football Association of Zambia, I wish to congratulate Mr Andrew Kamanga, the president of FAZ and his entire executive for putting together the necessary arrangements that led to this successful outcome.
“I assure the football fraternity and other forms of sport in the country that I will do my best as the Head of State and in my personal capacity to support the development of sports across the board,” the President said.
