By STEVEN ZANDE –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has said that he is grateful to the people of Chirundu for giving him votes in the last general election.
Mr Lungu said that without the votes of the people in Chirundu, he would not have attained the 50 plus one per cent threshold.
He said that the people of Chirundu deserved development like any other district that voted for him.
“It would be foolish of me not to appreciate Chirundu residents for the 2,000 plus votes you gave me and I assure you that I will make sure that we will work hard to bring development to this area,” Mr Lungu said.
He was speaking in Chirundu yesterday when he addressed a public rally after meeting with area traditional leaders and touring a number of development projects in the area.
The President praised area traditional leaders, Chieftainess Chiawa, Chief Chipepo and Chief Sikoongo for uniting their subjects during the August 11, general election period.
Mr Lungu told the traditional leaders that he was grateful to the people of the area who voted for him in the general election.
He said he respected the will of the people and the few votes he amassed in the area because everyone had a right to vote for their preferred candidates.
“I thank the traditional leadership for providing leadership during the elections that almost divided the nation.
“Zambia is one nation and I will not relent in providing leadership that brings development to the country,” Mr Lungu said.
He said all Zambians should now focus on working together with a view to develop the country.
The President inspected operations at the One Stop Border Post, progress on the Chirundu Road works and later interacted with traders at Chirundu Market.
Mr Lungu urged border authorities to enhance efficiency in their operations.
