NATIONAL Rally defending champion Muna Singh junior says his focus is to finish ahead of main rival Leroy Gomes in today’s season-closing Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) Skyview Lodge rally that revs off at Lusaka Motor Club.
Muna junior leads the national rally title tally on 100 points, nine points clear of second-placed Leroy Gomes of Acid Boys who is on 91 points with Muna Singh senior, Vyon Pinto and Miles Monge in joint third position on 72 points.
Muna junior said yesterday that he was really focused to finish top of the table and knew that he had to make sure Gomes does not beat him.
He predicted a stiff competition and singled out Gomes to be his main threat in the competition, adding that his crew had prepared well for any challenge.
ZMSA vice-president Sam Ching’ambu said the association was looking forward to a successful event and urged fans and the public to adhere to safety instructions given by the safety teams.
Meanwhile, deputy Clerk of Course Elmandy Gumboh said the event would be preceded by a qualifying stage at Lusaka Motor Club at which spectators would be required to pay K10 to watch the race.
Tomorrow, the race will move to Skyview Lodge at the Barn where there are three stages — the Bull, Waterfalls and Tyre King.
Gumboh said this year’s event, which would cover a total of 199 kilometres, would be done in reverse, saying that where the starting point was in the last event would be the finishing point.
The bull stage would be run twice while the waterfalls would be run three times, with the remaining stage to be done seven times.
A total of 21 drivers are expected to participate in the event that has attracted a K70, 000 sponsorship from Skyview Lodge and Pro-Watch with K55, 000 worth of sponsorship.
