A grade 12 pupil of Chinsali Day High School has escaped from lawful custody after he was allowed to write his General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations.
Muchinga Province police chief Auxensio Daka said the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon as the suspect wrote his examinations.
Mr Daka said the pupil was in custody serving a 24 months sentence for the offence of occasioning actual bodily harm.
“We received a report of a grade 12 pupil who escaped from lawful custody while writing his examinations. We also have another case of a convict Obvious Chama who escaped from a working party,” he said.
Mr Daka said no arrests had been made in both cases and police have instituted a manhunt for the duo.
Meanwhile, a five year old girl of Mpika has allegedly been defiled by a 16 year old boy.
Mr Daka said the girl who was in the company of her mother  at a named bar was defiled after the mother excused herself to answer the call of nature on Tuesday.
He said the girl went behind the bar where the toilet is located and the suspect took advantage and defiled her.
“We received a report from the girl’s mother that her daughter was defiled by a known person whose names are unknown. It is believed the boy is aged about 16 years of Casanova compound in Mpika.
“The incident happened when the mother took her daughter with her to the bar where she works as a bar lady,” he said.
Mr Daka said police had since instituted investigations and no arrests have been made yet.
