Arrows 24 KPF 7
RED Arrows bagged their sixth title of the season after winning the Owen Busange Sevens rugby tournament, beating a determined Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF) to walk away with K8,000.
Arrows, who are the league champions, have also won the Mopani 15s, Mufulira Sevens, American tournament and Nchanga 10s.
KPF walked away with K5,000 while the player-of-the-tournament accolade went to James Thole of Mufulira, who got K500, with Kansanshi getting the most disciplined team award and K1, 000.
Mufulira got the best war cry and K1,000.
Arrows scored four tries through Simon Kampindu, Kabwe Musonda, Terry Kaushiku and Phillip Kamanga, but could only manage two conversions by Kaushiku and Kamanga, while Wilson Kunda scored a try for KPF and it was converted by George Mwamba.
KPF beat Arrows B 10-7 in the semi-finals while Arrows overcame ‘Men At Work’ Diggers A 19-12.
Mufulira B won the Plate final after beating ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka, a team Busange coached prior to his death, 19-0 to go home with K4, 000 while the midlands side got K3, 000.
In the semi-final, Lusaka thrashed Mufulira 28-0 as Mufulira B beat Roan 10-0.
Busange died along with two Lusaka players, Kapasa Bwalya and Mwango Katema in two separate road traffic accidents in 2011 on the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriageway as the team was returning from Kitwe after competing in the American rugby tournament while seven players were left injured.
