UNITED States (US) Ambassador to Zambia Eric Schultz has urged Zambians to reconcile in the aftermath of the general elections to continue fostering peace and unity.
Mr Schultz said Zambia was a democratic State, hence the need for people to reconcile for the sake of peace and national unity.
He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the American government regarded Zambia as a unitary State.
“I believe what is important for Zambians now is to reconcile with one another. I am one of the people living in Zambia who strongly believe in the motto One Zambia One Nation,” Mr Schultz said.
He said it was crucial for Zambia to sustain its regional and international reputation as a beacon of peace.
Mr Schultz also appealed to the Government to consider holding an independent referendum on the Bill of Rights.
He said an independent process would give people enough time to consider the Bill of Rights and make informed decisions on the matter.
