Lungu to recommission Mulungushi Textile

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is this week expected to recommission Mulungushi Textile Industries of Kabwe which ceased operations in 2007 as a result of financial difficulties.
Once fully operational, the textile industry will create more than 2,000 job opportunities along the whole cotton value-chain.
Zambia Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) indicated that so far more than 300 jobs have been created in the garment and blanket section as well as technical specialist who are undertaking various maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery.
Mulungushi Textile Industries was now under the IDC, whose chairperson is President Lungu.
IDC indicated in a statement that the Head of State is expected to recommission the Mulungushi Textile Industries this week which will stimulate economic activities in Kabwe.
The Head of State last week on Saturday mentioned that Mulungushi Textile will be recommissioned within the first week of August.
According to an update from IDC, the garment and blanket section was already operational with Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), health personnel and prisoner uniforms under manufacture.
In related news, the IDC is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Cotton Association of Zambia which will see the two entities collaborate on the development of the cotton industry.
