POLICE have apprehended 10 suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres in connection with the damage of private minibuses in Old Kanyama Township in Lusaka.
Five out of the 10 have been identified by witnesses as the people who damaged the vehicles and they would be charged with malicious damage to property.
This is according to a statement issued by police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.
Mr Hamoonga said it was believed that on Sunday last week around 15:00 hours, 10 UPND cadres on a campaign trail damaged front screens and sliding glasses of five minibuses that were stationed at
Mutandabantu Bus Station without any lawful justification.
Among the suspects who were apprehended, one identified as Orian Shantobolo was allegedly found in possession of a catapult and a bottle containing sand and petrol.
“Following the arrest, an identification parade was conducted yesterday (Monday) between 15:00 hours and 16:00 hours.
“Five out of the 10 suspects were positively identified by the owners of the buses and will be charged for malicious damage to property,” Mr Hamoonga said.
Those arrested include Chitabola Lipoba, 30, Lastone Chikumbi, 32, John Dausi, 26, Namasiku Namangolwa, 26, and Shantobolo, aged 30.
The value of the damaged property had not yet been ascertained.
The suspects are in police custody and would appear in court soon.
