By JAMES KUNDA –
ZAMBIAN High Commissioner to Australia George Zulu has urged the business community of that country to tap into Zambia’s lucrative agriculture sector, which he says is ripe for investment.
Mr Zulu described agriculture as a viable industry that could uplift the living standard of people in the country and promote youth employment.
“Zambia and Australia should collaborate in the agriculture sector for the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
“I am also encouraging and looking forward to the formation of the Zambia-Australia business council to promote trade and investment,” Mr Zulu said.
He said this when Australian High Commissioner to Zambia Suzanne McCourt called on him in Canberra, Australia, on Monday.
This is according to a statement released by the Zambian High Commission in Canberra.
Mr Zulu said hunger could be fought through intensive and consistent farming in Zambia, adding that the two countries were looking at ways of engaging in the export and import of agricultural produce such as corn and beef.
The two envoys concurred that working together in sectors like agriculture, mining and manufacturing would boost the warm and cordial relations existing between the two countries.
Mr Zulu also expressed desire for enhanced technology transfer to Zambia owing to the level of the advanced technology used in fields such as health, which enabled Australian residents to acquire satisfactory services.
Ms McCourt, who is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, reiterated her country’s resolve to continue its excellent bilateral relations with Zambia.
She said the positive efforts of Zambia’s Government to diversify the economy were in the right direction as this would encourage growth and development.
Ms McCourt commended Zambians for the peaceful manner in which they always conducted themselves before, during and after the elections.
