Speaking at the launch of the team in Lusaka on Sunday, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming said the people of Zambia would also benefit from the health services to be provided by Chinese doctors through an emergency medical assistance.
“I believe that with the launch of the emergency medical assistance team, the life and health of all Chinese nationals in Zambia will be better guaranteed,” he said.
Mr Youming said China was also committed to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zambia for the expansion of existing infrastructure at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital.
This, he said, would help to provide more quality health services and bed capacity for patients at the hospital in addition to other already established health facilities.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba called for more financial and technical assistance from China to support the development of Zambia in various economic sectors.
Dr Mwaba said that Zambia was committed in enhancing bilateral ties with China citing that country’s pledge to help expand the infrastructure at the Levy Mwanawasa hospital.
“We appreciate that China is doing a lot in areas of infrastructure, health and other economic cooperation and we need to continue to work together,” he said.
Zambia-Chinese Association president Zhang Jian said the launch of the emergency medical assistance team was important in deepening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Mr Zhang said the association would in future, set up new goals that would see more investments in the Zambian economy in areas of health services.
He said, through the establishment of the team, there would be more effective medical services not only focusing on Chinese nationals, but would also the local people.
