THE Africa Development Bank (AfDB) has provided over US$9 million to improve the water reticulation system in Kalulushi, District Commissioner, Kenny Siachisumo has said.
Mr Siachisumo said the AfDB had helped improve water supply in areas such as Chibuluma, Chibote and North Kalenga.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Mr Siachisumo said the $9.5 million which was invested in the water project had helped to improve the provision of quality water to the residents in the affected areas.
“I want to say that we have seen improved water reticulation in Kalulushi District from the time money was invested, and our communities have been informed on the importance of safeguarding the facilities and to report any vandalism on the pipes to law enforcement agencies,” he said.
He said the quality of water supplied to the residents was questionable, but that through the AfDB support, people were now able to access clean drinking water.
He said in order to improve water supply and sanitation services in all urban areas in the country, the Government had patnered with international institutions to meet the goal.
Mr Siachisumo called on Nkana Water and Sewerage Company to revamp the water supply.
Some residents in Kalulushi complained that there was need for the water utility to boost water supply to avoid waterborne diseases.
