GENERAL Education Deputy Minister David Mabumba has described the development projects taking place in Mwense District as unprecedented.
Mr Mabumba, who is the former Patriotic Front (PF) Mwense Member of Parliament (MP), said in the last five years, the face of Mwense had changed in terms of infrastructure development.
He said during his tenure as MP, four basic schools namely, Kashiba, Mutima, Mukumbwa and Musangu had been upgraded to secondary schools.
The deputy minister also cited the construction of rural health centres, Mwense Trades training centre, the district hospital, and piped water projects in Kashiba, Kapakala, Musangu and Lukwesa as some of the developments.
Other projects include National Savings and Credit (NATSAVE) bank which was last month opened by Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda, among others.
Mr Mabumba said the opening of NATSAVE in the district was fundamental in the development of the district as money would be kept in circulation within the district.
He said civil servants, business executives, marketeers and small-scale farmers would no longer travel long distances to access banking facilities in Mansa because the bank was within the district.
Mr Mabumba said the opening of the bank in the district proved Government’s resolve to provide banking services to the entire population.
Meanwhile, Mr Mabumba has urged teachers to upgrade their qualifications so that they could be considered for higher positions.
He said the ministry of Education was expanding its services due to various infrastructure developments taking place in the education sector.
The deputy minister said so far, the Government was building 115 schools and upgrading 220 basic schools to secondary school level, while eight universities were also under construction countrywide.—ZANIS
