Police capBy BRIAN HATYOKA and CHILA NAMAIKO –

POLICE in Livingstone have arrested four suspected notorious criminals who have allegedly been involved in a spate of robberies in the tourist capital.
Southern Province deputy Police chief Alfred Nawa said the police had arrested Cesar Sichilongo, 32, Chanda Bwalya,18, Havy Sialwindi, 24, and Musa Zimba,30, all of Malota Township in Livingstone.
Mr Nawa said the four, who were facing several aggravated robbery charges, were part of many suspects who were misled to believe that all police officers from Livingstone had relocated to Choma following the relocation of the provincial capital.
Speaking yesterday, Mr Nawa said the four were rounded up by the anti-robbery squad at the weekend and would appear in court soon.
“When the Provincial Police Division relocated from Livingstone to Choma, many criminals celebrated thinking that all police officers have relocated and Livingstone is a free place to engage in criminality.
“So these criminals have been going round to engage in robbery cases and fortunate enough we have managed to round up some of them,” he said.
Mr Nawa said the police were assessing if the four suspects were part of the criminals who recently killed a security guard working at Livingstone’s Highland market Daniel Miyutu, 60, and robbed him of
various goods and money valued at more than K5,000.
In Mazabuka, Mr Nawa said the police were investigating a case in which Emeless Kamunga, 19, of Mulonga Extension aborted her four months pregnancy.
It is believed that the abortion was prompted by Kamunga’s brother in law, John Simweene, who work for Zambia Sugar.
Mr Nawa said the victim was admitted to Mazabuka Hospital where the fetus was discharged and disposed off.
“The police are still investigating this matter but we wish to urge the community to desist from engaging in acts of abortion because it can lead one to death,” Mr Nawa said
In Choma, a 32-year-old man of Mwapona, Township has been found dead with the body floating in a shallow well.
The deceased, identified as Senza Kanengu, was discovered dead by a passer-by who reported the matter at Choma Central Police station.
Mr Nawa, confirmed the incident which happened on Thursday last week.
He said that the body was found floating in a shallow well on Thursday in the morning.
Mr Nawa said, the police did not suspect any foul play because the deceased was found with no injuries on his body.
“When we received this report, we rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the body, but as police we don’t suspect any foul play to have occurred because the body was not found with any injuries,” he
said.
He said the body was retrieved by a combined team of police and fire brigade officers and it was lying in Choma General Hospital mortuary.
Mr Nawa, however, said that police had instituted investigations to ascertain the cause of the death.
