THE construction of two high schools in Gwembe and Kazungula districts at a cost of about K100 million has reached an advanced stage.
Munyumbwe would be the first high school in Gwembe and was among many other developmental projects being carried out by Government in the district Provincial Education Officer (PEO) Stephen Chishiko said yesterday that the construction of Munyumbwe High School was progressing well and would be completed soon Mr Chishiko, who inspected the project on Friday, said that more than 80 per cent of the construction works by a Chinese contractor had already been completed.
He said the school project had cost Government about K48 million and the contractor was now working on improving the water reticulation system and electrical facilities for the new school.
“The school project is going on well and the contractor is making concerted efforts to complete it as soon as possible and hand it over to Government,” he said
Mr Chishiko said once the school was completed, it would improve provision of quality education in Gwembe and reduce rising cases of early marriages.
In Kazungula District, he said, Government was constructing a K48 million Kazungula Secondary School and the project was nearing completion with 90 per cent of the works completed
He said the district had lacked such a facility for a long time, adding that once opened, the school would accommodate many pupils in Kazungula who were deprived of going to upper grades
He said that Government recently released more than K250,000 to Southern Water and Sewerage Company (SWASCO) for the water reticulation project at the new school
Mr Chishiko said in Choma District, Government had embarked on upgrading of 22 selected schools from the lower level up to Grade 12 levels to enhance education standards.
He said Government had this year, prioritised infrastructure development in education sector in the province and was hopeful that children would appreciate the on-going good education policies.
The PEO urged head teachers to be proactive and supervise their teachers closely to help Government deliver quality education in the country.
