SPRINTER Hazemba Chidamba at the weekend, set a new personal best time in the 100 metres race as he won the All-Comers championship in Lusaka by timing 10.24 seconds.
Fresh from winning a bronze medal in the 4×100 metres relay at the Africa senior championships held in South Africa, Chidamba sliced his time from 10.38 seconds to the new time of 10.24 seconds, which is also his season’s best.
In setting his new personal best, Chidamba left Zambian 100 metres champion Brian Kasinda in his wake leaving the fast improving Kasinda in second position after timing 10.38 seconds, way off his personal best of 10.10 seconds.
The championship was however without African women 400 metres champion Kabange Mupopo and Sydney Siame.
On the overall, Green Buffaloes Athletics Club at the weekend dominated the July All-comers athletics meet held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
In the dominant display, Buffaloes picked up a whopping 96 points in all the categories to leave Zambia Sugar in distant second position with 73 points.
Zambia Police came out third after amassing 64 points and Zambia Air Force (ZAF)’s Red Arrows only managed to get 19 points with ZNS on 14 points and in fifth place while, Olympic Flyers were the tail enders with only 12 points.
A total of six teams took part in this month’s All-Comers meet.
In the 5000 metres category, Edward Mwanza of Green Buffaloes was in a class of his own after clocking 15:09 minutes to take the title while Rogers Phiri of Zambia Sugar clocked 15:18 minutes to finish second.
Charles Simukowa of Green Buffaloes won the 400 metres category after he timed 48:63 minutes while his team mate Fizzie Mulali came second after he timed 49:61 seconds with Steven Mutale completing the top three categories after clocking 50:45 minutes.
Moono Munkombwe of Zambia Sugar won the 800 metres with a time of 2:01.02 minutes and left Joseph Bisenga of Zambia Sugar in second position after timing 2:03.04 minutes while Danny Chibwe concluded the top three.
In the women’s 800 metres category, Ruth Mwenya of Green Buffaloes won the category after clocking 2:24.74 minutes while Ireen Hamapunda of Zambia Sugar was second with 2:32.72 minutes.
Felistus Mpande of Green Buffaloes outpaced the other athletes in the 1, 500 metres and timed 4:52.5 minutes.
Ruth Mwenya came out second with a time of 4:54:69 minutes and Maines Hatembo of Zambia Sugar was third with 5:26:53 minutes.
