By PERPETUAL SICHIKWENKWE –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has directed Zesco, to stop loadshedding in Sinazongwe District of Southern Province.
The Head of State said Sinazongwe should not experience loadshedding because it was the host of the Kariba dam, the source of electricity.
Mr Lungu said this when he addressed a public rally at Malima school grounds in Sinazongwe on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, Chief Sinazongwe told the President when he paid a courtesy call on him at his palace that he was wondering as to why his chiefdom had no electricity when the Kariba dam which generated national power was in his land.
The chief said he was surprised that while other places had electricity, his chiefdom was not enjoying the facility despite being near the source of power.
He said the area had hosted the Kariba dam for more than 58 years but electricity was passing over their roofs to other places such as Western Province.
“My palace does not have electricity. Our villagers do not even know electricity. How can this be Your Excellency?” the Chief asked.
Chief Sinazongwe said it was only fair for his subjects to also enjoy electricity in their villages, schools, clinics and other facilities because they owned the land where power was generated.
“We are the owners of this electricity but Zesco is not with us. They can’t even point at electrifying a lavatory. They have failed even at my palace,” he said.
Chief Sinazongwe said pupils in the district were not taking computer lessons because of lack of electricity.
The chief, however, said he was happy that President Lungu was the first sitting President to enter his palace.
He also thanked the President for taking development to the area.
And addressing hundreds of Malima residents during a rally, Mr Lungu urged them to vote for PF and it’s candidates.
Mr Lungu said the PF was a Government for all Zambians and his administration would continue taking development to the area once voted into office.
PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri urged the people to vote for the PF but assured them that even in an event that they voted for the opposition, PF as a party in power would still take development to the area.
Sinazongwe PF aspiring candidate Richwell Siamunene urged the people to move with the rest of the country to vote for the ruling party.
