GREEN Buffaloes started their campaign with a resounding 3-1 win over Southern Select as the Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA) Zone Six qualifiers got underway at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Buffaloes used experience to thump the new entrants with 25 18 first set in the women category but lost the second set via 18-25 before finding their grip to win the remaining two sets 25-20 and 15-8.
In the men’s category, ZAVA Open champions Green Eagles beat Nkwazi 3-1 in their opening game. The Zambia National Service (ZNS) sponsored outfit won the first set 25-13 but allowed Nkwazi back in the game after going down 21-25 in the second set.
Eagles came back strongly in the third and fourth sets winning 25-20 and 25-21.
Other men’s games played at the University of Zambia (UNZA) sports hall saw Buffaloes beat UNZA 3-0 before beating Konkola with an identical score.
City of Lusaka made short work of ‘Policemen’ Nkwazi whom they edged 3-1 through set scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 25-16.
About 16 teams are taking part in the qualifiers for a chance to represent Zambia at the 2016 Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone Six Championship to be held in Namibia.
Top three teams in the men and women category will earn the right to compete at the regional showpiece scheduled for Windhoek in September.
