WHAT makes a music video? This is a question that most artistes have been struggling with especially when choosing characters to feature in a music video.
With a growing perception that beautiful skimpily dressed women make good salable characters in a music video, most Zambian songs are twisted towards love to accommodate that aspect in the video; a notion Chiko Wise disagrees with.
Kopala’s Chiko Wise says most of the Zambian artistes nowadays feel a video is rated as ‘great’ when it has some shots of indecently females.
Chiko wise says it is unfortunate that musicians are now emulating the western culture and have decided to forget about their own.
He explains that a woman’s body should be fully covered according Zambia’s tradition but that the opposite is prevailing in most of the Zambian recent music videos.
The Mpaka Kumanda fame artiste has noted with disappointment that in most instances it is only the female folk that accept to undress in videos whilst the men will always be nicely dressed and on point.
Chiko Wise is therefore being wise by calling on all the women to respect their bodies in productions that become of public consumption as they would one day be mothers and finding it difficult to watch the same videos with their children.
“Some musicians would disrespect ladies and have them undress in music videos because they have observed that some ladies do not value their bodies.
Ladies should respect the Zambian culture and not lose it for the envy of the western life style.” he says.
Chiko wise advises his fellow musicians to embrace the women and not wrongly use them so as to have their music videos sale.
The artiste says that a good video will be noticed even with very decently dressed women as long as graphics and picture quality is on point.
