ZAMBIAN Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali has said United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba have nothing tangible to offer to the Zambians.
Mr Tayali said this was because the people of Zambia had more confidence in the leadership of President Edgar Lungu.
He said Mr Lungu had worked well going by the many programmes of development, such as infrastructure projects being carried out countrywide to uplift the living standards of the people.
Mr Tayali said in a statement yesterday that there was enough evidence to show that Mr Lungu had exhibited a good sense of leadership, unlike Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba who were still offering what he termed promissory notes.
“Mr Hichilema can talk, but he has nothing to show. This means it will be difficult for Zambians to believe his integrity. He has never been in power, he only thinks about himself and his business,” he said.
Mr Tayali said President Lungu had much to offer to Zambians, and cited the completion of a wide range of development projects started by late President Michael Sata.
He said the projects had changed the welfare of the people in line with the ruling Patriotic Front (PF)’s manifesto.
Mr Tayali observed that the PF’s campaign slogan ‘Sontapo’ was working well as it illustrated that there was something to show which the Government had done in five years.
He accused Mr Hichilema of claiming to be concerned about improving the welfare of people when in fact his desire to go to State House was for personal gain.
Mr Tayali said it was for that reason that Zambians doubted UPND’s manifesto because the opposition party did not practise what it was advocating.
He challenged the UPND leadership to provide financial support to some party members who got injured or died while campaigning for the party.
